Because no one quite realizes what Sunderland, MA looks like... And in 2002, there was not a Dunkin Donuts or a liquor store. There was a 7-11, a small diner, and that's about all. Many of the people who lived in the two apartment complexes were UMass students or recent grads. As someone who used to take the busses from Northampton to Sunderland, this is one of the things that personally boggles my mind. Google maps screenshots below. Folks can make up their own mind.
