Regarding a Venue for C.O.G.S. Expo 2019

Since yesterday's announcement of a previously unknown steampunk event at the Radisson in Piscataway, NJ, we've received a number of questions and concerns. This is our official statement.

Steampunk Community, the organizers of C.O.G.S. Expo 2018 will always be grateful to the staff of the Radisson Piscataway-Somerset for their generosity and support in helping make the first Community-Organized Gathering of Steampunks happen. They played a pivotal role in bringing the community together and making the once in a lifetime event of C.O.G.S. Expo 2018 such a success.

However, Sunny Chaudhry, General Manager of the Radisson Piscataway-Somerset, has informed the organizers that he is not interested in having the Community-Organized Gathering of Steampunks back next year for C.O.G.S. Expo 2019. He has made a decision “to go a different route next year” which he believes will “get a guaranteed sell out of the hotel”. The Radisson is, first and foremost, a business and this is Sunny’s business decision to make.

While initially disappointed by this news, the organizers of C.O.G.S. see this opportunity to make a clean break from the prior event, and to start making new memories at fresh venue for C.O.G.S. Expo 2019. We are already in negotiations with several possible new venues and will announce the new location as soon as the contracts are signed. It is still our intent to hold C.O.G.S. Expo 2019 on May 17-19, 2019, as voted by the community.

The Owl's take: 

The Radisson doesn't want the community run event that they have worked with to do a second event. As far as I'm aware, COGS 2018 was as much of a success as it possibly could given the circumstances. 

So who is going to attend this *other* event at the Radisson if not the community?

I have lots of questions.
